CANTON — A Gouverneur man charged with having sex with a child in 2010 was sentenced Friday in St. Lawrence County Court to 10 years in state prison.

Joshua R. Bristol, 23, was sentenced by Judge Jerome J. Richards after admitting May 20 to engaging in sexual activity with a 2-year-old boy during the summer of 2010.

State police arrested him Jan. 16 and charged him with first-degree commission of criminal sexual act with a child under the age of 11, a class B felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.

In addition to the 10-year sentence, Bristol was issued $1,425 in court fines, fees and surcharges. He also was sentenced to 15 years of post-release parole. The judge issued a 33-year order of protection for the victim.
