William E. Cady


The funeral for William E. “Bill” Cady of 17961 First Street, Adams Center will be on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of TLC Funeral Home, Inc. Calling hours will be on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be private at Union Cemetery. Mr. Cady died at the Samaritan Medical Center on June 20, 2013. He was 58.

He was born July 29, 1954 in Gowanda, New York the son of Charles F. and Joyce Rupp Cady. He attended and graduated from Sackets Harbor Central School in 1972, where he played and lettered in four sports: football, basketball, baseball and track. After graduation, he attended Canton Agricultural Technical College in Canton, NY where he majored in Agricultural Business. He was a member of the Zeta Alpha Phi fraternity and also played on the basketball team. He was a member of the American Legion (S.A.L.), played semi-pro basketball for the Collegiate Northmen for two years. He married his wife, Susan C. Harmon, of Lee Center, (Rome), NY in 1976 while in college. They later divorced in 1987.

After graduating from Canton, he was to attend the University of Georgia but instead William, bought a dairy farm in 1975 from his grandmother, Gladys Cady and his late grandfather Earl Cady. He owned and operated the dairy farm on the Cady Rd. for 21 years. He showed cattle at both the county and state fair. He had worked at the Horticultural building and dairy products building. He sold his dairy cattle after 18 years and cash cropped for three years following the sale. He won the foul shooting contest three times at the New York State fair beating, Syracuse University All American, Jimmy Lee. William shot 69, beating Jimmy’s 48. He officiated (IABBO) high school basketball for 28 years. After liquidating the farm, he worked construction for some years and then obtained a real estate license. Currently, William was a consultant for Ambit Energy. Mr. Cady always loved sports, the outdoors, planting a seed and watching it grow. He could always get you to laugh.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Coach’s For Cancer Society or the American Legion Post 586 of Adams. Surviving are his mother Joyce Rupp Cady of Watertown, a daughter and son in law Mrs. Ryan (Lara) Linnen of Gilbert, AZ and his son and daughter in law Joseph and Maggie Cady of Tempe, AZ, a brother, Thomas Cady of Sackets Harbor, his sister and brother in law, Mrs. Stephen (Sally) Lee of Watertown, 8 grandchildren: Tatum and Morgan Linnen, Julia Joseph, Leah, Noah, Micah Cady and a grandson that is due over the summer, 1 uncle, Dave Rupp of Niagara Falls, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A brother Edward Cady died before him.
