A busy time in the city


To The Editor:

Mother’s Day to Father’s Day was a full month of special events in the city of Ogdensburg. I salute the following people and organizations for their dedicated service, and hard work by reaching out to others:

Pro Musica concert, directed by Eric Warner at St. John’s Church.

Seaway House celebrated 25 years of service to St. Lawrence County.

Elks Club hosted the first annual auction for Relay for Life, with Mel Bustler of WWNYTV as auctioneer.

Amvets Post 19 Ladies Auxiliary hosted an annual variety show and dinner on Armed Forces Day.

Operation Veterans continues to raise the needs of all veterans ages 21 to 101.

Ogdensburg Free Academy Builders Club hosted a flag raising ceremony with special guests.

Ogdensburg Garden Club, the city Parks and Recreation Department, Department of Public Works, and Pride and Beautification Committee prepare the gardens and flower pots around town.

Presbyterian Church hosts free lunch each Saturday.

The city Tree Commission plants new trees around town.

A group of veterans repairs, plants, prepares the Veterans Plot and potters field at Ogdensburgh Cemetery for Memorial Day.

Veterans and friends place American flags on graves.

Blessing of a park bench at the Vietnam Memorial Wall monument in memory of Major Maurice “Hal” Barry.

Annual Memorial Day parade and services held.

A bottle and can drive and jamboree are held for a family with losses in a fire.

National Cancer Survivors Day dinner celebration at the dome June 2.

There are “people responsible’ for having Old Glory fly over the Customs House again.

The fifth annual smallmouth bass children’s derby was held.

City schools host concerts by students.

Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad opens its new doors.

City Fire Department hosts a car wash for youth.

The Elks Club hosts Flag Day services.

Relay for Life 2013 was held June 7 and 8 at OFA.

A blessing of the park bench at Groulx Park in memory of Lance Cpl. Nic Sovie, and a donation to wounded warriors.

Amvets Post 19 Ladies Auxiliary collected new pillows and blankets for Fort Drum soldiers.

Scholarships were awarded by local groups to students and graduates.
