Helga H. Lago

Helga Hahn Lago, 53, the wife of James E. Lago, Ogdensburg, was called home to Jesus on 7 March 2013, in Homburg, Germany after nearly a two year battle with Lymphoma Cancer. Mrs. Lago is survived by her husband of 29 years, a daughter, Jessica Hahn, 35, and two sons, James Steven Lago, 29 and Jeffrey Roger Lago, 26, two grandchildren, Maurice Hahn and Ashton Lago, along with three sisters, Karen Obrich, Ilona Bayer and Renate Brucker, and four brothers, Lucian, Jurgen, Karl Heinz and Gerhard, and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Lago was born on 5 July 1959 in Jena, East Germany. Her family migrated to Western Germany some years later. The family eventually settled in Saarland, in the city of Ober-Bexbach. It was there in 1982, where she met her husband, while he was serving in the military. They returned to the United States in February 1984, and they were married that same month in Florida. They lived in Caribou, Maine for four and a half years, until her husband retired from the military.

While in Maine and New York, Mrs. Lago worked in various factories, holding down Quality Control positions. Upon returning to Germany, she worked in several positions, before her illness became apparent. Mrs. Lago, was an excellent home-maker, filling her home with love, caring and understanding. She loved to bake, especially making German specialty cakes, which she often shared with friends and family everywhere. She also loved to grow her own spices, tomatoes and strawberries, which she used in her cooking recipes. She loved making all kinds of crafts and was very good at refinishing furniture.

Mrs. Lago was predeceased by her parents, Lucian and Margarette Hahn.

A memorial service is being planned for 3 July 2013 at 2PM, at Notre Dame Church.
