ALEXANDRIA BAY — It took some extra time, but River Hospital recently received a new ultrasound system.

The 4 Fuller St. hospital acquired the Acuson X700 ultrasound system from Siemens Healthcare after the River Hospital Foundation spent the past two years collecting funds to help pay for the equipment through its year-end annual appeals.

“The advanced technologies significantly enhance ultrasound image quality and the innovative applications procedure results consistent with the high standard we strive to offer our patients,” Dr. Ali Gharagozloo said in a news release. “Our ACUSON 700 allows our staff to perform a wide range of patient exams with the highest degree of confidence.”

Dr. Gharagozloo is the hospital’s radiology medical director.

The equipment will be used to capture images in the following areas: general abdominal, cardiac and obstetrics/gynecological.

Dr. Gharagozloo said images from the new machine will be more detailed. According to the news release, “best-in-class high quality 2D images allow for greater diagnostic insight on every patient’s exam from comprehensive cardiac assessment to deep abdominal and superficial parts scanning.”

The hospital raised money for more than two years for the ultrasound and digital mammography equipment. Although River Hospital Foundation gave $150,000 toward the purchase of digital mammography equipment in 2012, it ended up not being enough. The quote had soared to $300,000 after additional components were needed.

The original quote was $150,000.
