To The Editor:
Back the Pack has completed its second successful year providing healthy snacks for Massenas elementary school children, who may be facing hunger for 66 hours each weekend, when school lunches are not available.
First, thank you to Massena Savings and Loan for providing us with a building to pack and store our food and supplies. Thank you to all of the local civic organizations that held fundraisers and contributed to our success. Without your help, we could not survive. Thank you to the Alcoa employees and the Rose Hill students, who came to pack and were so efficient and cheerful.
Thank you to all of our donors, groups and individuals, who have been so generous. Your faith in our project has allowed us to grow and make food available to so many children. With your help, we were able to provide 9,027 snack packs for the school year 2012-2013.
A special thank you goes to the media. The Free Trader has shown a truly generous community spirit. Thank you to Sandy Cook of WMSA and Bob Beckstead of the Courier Observer, who are always willing to talk with us and promote our program and fundraisers.
We are also grateful to Dan Pease, Esq. of Pease and Gustafson, who stepped in to help us with much needed advice and assistance.
Lastly, thank you to all of the wonderful school counselors, secretaries and elementary school principals who are always concerned with the welfare of all of Massenas children. They are truly amazing. Finally thank you to all of the many Back the Pack volunteers who fundraise, pack, deliver, count inventory and work hard to make Back the Pack the special organization that it is.
