Top seed Ogdensburg Pepsi, No. 3 seed Howland Pump reach Kiwanis Grasshopper League final


No. 3 seed Howland Pump earned a 6-4 seven inning thriller over No. 2 Weston’s Collision and No. 4 Moose Lodge held their own with No. 1 Pepsi Cola but fell 5-2 in Tuesday’s 2013 Kiwanis Grasshopper League Baseball Semi-Final round.

The championship game will be held on Thursday evening at 6 p.m. at Russ McDonald field at Montroy Sports Complex. In two previous meetings, Pepsi fended off Howland Pump 3-2 and 3-1.

Howland Pump 6, Weston’s Auto 4: Jackson Troiano belted his second solo homerun of the game in the seventh inning to break a 4-4 tie after Weston’s Collision’s rally caps came through with a three run sixth inning.

Troiano homered, doubled and singled before rapping his decisive round-tripper. Alex Barrett connected for a two run triple to break a 0-0 tie and Tristen Fitzgerald smacked a triple, a double and a single. Brogan LaRose, Zach Thomas and Owen Warchol supplied a single for the winners.

Jackson Troiano, Hayden Ives and Jacob Sharpe fanned 12 batters combined while firstbaseman Chris Garcia made the defensive play of the game, ESPN Web Gem style, turning a double play with catcher Hayden Ives to force out a potential winning run in the bottom of the sixth.

Keegan Kelley smacked a triple, Dawson Marino lined a double and John Trathen singled in the three-run sixth inning rally for the Heuvelton-based Weston’s squad. Kelley, Trent Weston, and Drew Harmer each singled while

Trathen, Marino, Bryce Lake and Kelley fanned 11 batters for Weston’s.

Pepsi 5, Moose Lodge 2: Ethan Baldwin (9 strikeouts) and Connor Griffith (3 strikeouts) combined on a five-hitter allowing two singles and one RBI to Carson Barney and Cody George and a triple to Caleb Legault.

Baldwin supplied two singles and three RBIs for Pepsi. Griffith stroked three singles while Mitchell Brenno lined a single and a double and drove in a run.

Outstanding plays were made from Kyle Tremley in leftfield, Jackson Jones at firstbase, Bailey Benware at secondbase, Donnie Baker at secondbase, and Kyle Ashley in the outfield for Pepsi.

Chase LaFlair, Jordan Fennessy and Mark Barr played solid defense for Moose Lodge and Garrett Piercey and Legault combined to fan 13 batters.
