LOUISVILLE – Mrs. Theresa E. Saumier, 84, of 1491 County Route 36 – Town Ridge Road, peacefully passed away in the comfort of her home with her family by her side on Tuesday evening, June 25, 2013.

Theresa was born April 8, 1929 in Fort Covington, the daughter of the late Wallace and Louise Richier Martin. She attended local schools and later earned her dietician certification from St. Lawrence BOCES. On July 26, 1947, she married Lucien R. Saumier at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fort Covington with Rev. Dufort, officiating. He predeceased her on June 26, 1993.

Theresa was a homemaker raising her children and also worked at one time at the Bombay Slipper Factory, Massena High School and the Massena Country Club. Theresa’s love for animals was truly evident in life with the many animals around her all the time. She also enjoyed listening to music, gardening, going to the casino and shopping.

She is survived by her children, Lucien “Luke” and Rita Saumier and Deborah Saumier, all of Massena; Lance Saumier, address unknown; 12 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two daughters, Barbara Burlem and Nancy Gunsauls; 2 brothers, Laga and Victor Martin; and 3 sisters, Evelyn Gurrola, Edna Boak, and Tiny Burnell.

As per her wishes there will be no calling hours. A celebration of her life will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Massena Humane Society.
