POTSDAM - The Potsdam Hospital Guild recently presented their annual donation to the Canton-Potsdam Hospital Foundation.
This years gift totals more than $58,000, including a $15,000 payment on their pledge for the hospitals Center for Cancer Care, $23,780 to purchase 41 new Lifeline Units, $9,000 for a fetal monitor, and numerous smaller grants for departments and projects across the Hospital.
The Potsdam Guild is an all-volunteer group that has operated continuously since 1933. The Guild originally formed to sew bandages and bed sheets for the Hospital, and evolved into the highly effective fund-raising and community outreach organization it is today. Last year the Guilds efforts were recognized by the Hospital Association of New York State, which named the Potsdam Guild its Small Hospital Auxiliary of the Year for 2012.
Eighteen dedicated Guild Board members, and countless Guild volunteers, donate thousands of hours in fundraising for the Hospital. Guild members also provide direct service to the Hospital by providing assistance at blood drives, the Halloween and Christmas/holiday parties for children, and at other Hospital events.
Guild volunteers operate the CPH Gift Shop – with all proceeds benefiting the Hospital. Additionally, the Guild raises funds through in-hospital book and uniform sales, and from community events including a Garden Tour, Trivia Night, Family Hockey Night, a huge Garage Sale, and a Golf Tournament coordinated by both the Potsdam and EJ Noble Guilds.
At their recent annual meeting, the Guild thanked outgoing Board President Joyce Yianoukos and elected Deany Wood president for 2013-14. Other Guild officers are Vice President Laurie Cappello, Secretary Kim Jones and Treasurer Mary Jane Smalling.
