James V. Vespa, 73, Dry Hill Rd., passed away Thursday evening, June 27th, in the emergency room of the Samaritan Medical Center.

Calling hours are Sunday, June 30th, from 1 pm - 4 pm at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held for the convenience of the family in Glenwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jefferson County SPCA, 25056 Water St., Ext., Watertown, NY 13601.

Jim was born in Watertown, November 9th, 1939, a son to Angelo and Rose Genito Vespa. He graduated from Watertown High School. Jim was self employed, owning and operating James Vespa Trucking. He was a member of the Watertown Elks and the Italian American Club, and a former member of Local 545 Operating Engineers. Jim enjoyed cooking, hunting, the casino’s and animals, especially his cats.

He married Judy Szaybel April 23rd, 1960 at St. Patrick’s Church.

Jim is survived by his wife, Judy. Two daughters and sons-in-law, Julie and Todd Martin; Sandy and Tim Burnett all of Watertown; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jamie Vespa, Watertown; and David and Allison Vespa, Adams. Five grandchildren, Leslie Martin, Eric and Evan Burnett, Emma and Layla Vespa. Two sisters, Toni Kaasbell, Peachtree City, GA and Carmella Dobson, Redding, CA. Many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. His mother-in-law, Jolonda Wilson, Watertown.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Louis, John and Anthony Vespa and three sisters, Felicia Hickey, Mary Kraus and Nancy Pound.
