Living History Day

To The Editor:

On behalf of the Fort la Presentation Association I would like to thank all those involved with Living History Day, which took place May 17 on Lighthouse Point. Over 330 students from Heuvelton Central School and Ogdensburg City Schools experienced what life was like during colonial times.

This program was made possible through the Heuvelton and Ogdensburg School Districts, the Ogdensburg Education Association, the Heuvelton PTA, the Heuvelton Teachers Association, the Heuvelton Lions, St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES, and the Fort la Presentation Association. Presenters from throughout Northern New York and Ontario brought history to life. We thank all of them for their hard work and dedication. The Heuvelton Lions Club provided coffee, water and doughnuts for teachers and presenters and assisted with some stations. The Ogdensburg City School District provided tables and chairs. In addition, BOCES provided a Coser, which would not have been possible without the assistance of Stephen Todd and Debbie Champagne.

This day would not have been possible without the support of Superintendent Susan Todd from Heuvelton Central School and Superintendent Tim Vernsey from the Ogdensburg City School District. The support of administrators, teachers and staff was also essential.

Our education committee members worked very hard to make this day possible. So thanks should go to Nancy LaFaver, Tim Cryderman, John Miller III, Bonnie Wright, Martha Valley, Melissane Schrems, and Barbara O’Keefe.

We also thank our fort board volunteers, Judy Lesperance, Joe Cosentino, and Michael Whittaker and my husband, Patrick Madlin. Finally, without Marsha Hough’s tireless work this day would not have been as fantastic as it was.
