LISBON – Matthew C. Snyder is about to embark on a five-country, musical tour of Europe with the American Music Abroad Gold Tour.

“I’m very excited for it,” the recent Lisbon Central School graduate said.

Mr. Snyder’s participation in the tour came about after he was noticed by one of the tour organizers at a New York State Honors Band performance in Syracuse in March. He plays baritone saxophone.

Being one of the late additions to the tour, Mr. Snyder said he have to audition for the part because he has been accepted to Ithaca College’s music education program.

If he was good enough for Ithaca, he was good enough for them, Mr. Snyder said.

The tour begins for Mr. Snyder with rehearsals at Millersville University in Pennsylvania on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before he gets on a plane headed for Vienna, Austria.

“Every two days I go to a new city,” Mr. Snyder said.

There will be lots of time for sight-seeing.

“The first day [we arrive in a city] we go on a tour [of the area] and then perform a concert the next night,” he said.

On July 7 Mr. Snyder will leave Vienna for Prague, Czech Republic. After that he will travel to Dresden and Dinkelsbuhl, both in Germany.

The trip will include a tour of the Dachau Concentration Camp and a stop in Munich, Germany, before heading to Westendorf in the Austrian Alps.

After leaving Austria, the tour will travel to Abano Terme and Venice, Italy, before concluding in Winterthur, Switzerland.

Mr. Snyder will return to the States on July 20.

Mr. Snyder said he started playing the saxophone in fifth grade with the Lisbon school band and has no plans to stop.

“This is a great honor for someone from [the] small town of Lisbon,” his mother, Julie Snyder, said in an email.
