This photo taken in the 1960s shows participants in St. Lawrence Gas Co.s Fine Art of the Gourmet program. As part of its promotion of the use of gas in cooking, the company held a monthlong weekly cooking program for men from the Potsdam area. Virginia Dufresne and Lorraine Labelle of the gas companys Home Services Department were the instructors. At the end of the program, each participant was issued a certificate that proclaimed The Gents a Gourmet and stated that he is hereby qualified and privileged to practice his culinary skills wherever he might be and whenever the spirit (or spirits) move him. The photo was submitted by Bill Fiesinger of Potsdam, a former Clarkson University administrator, who participated in the program.
