The Watertown Rams scored two runs in the first inning and used strong starting pitching in each game as they swept the Newark Pilots, 2-1 and 3-1, in Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League play on Saturday at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds
Watertown (9-10) has now won four straight and is in first place in the PGCBL West Division, a half-game ahead of second-place Elmira.
Dominic Lopez (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) supplied both RBIs in the first game, and Jake Jenkins pitched five scoreless innings for the Rams. Bryce Greager (Chandler-Gilbert) went 2-for-3 with a double in the opener and Cody Culp (Bellevue CC) earned the save with a scoreless seventh.
Greager then generated two RBIs in the nightcap with another double, and Kevin Klaess picked up the victory by giving up only one run on four hits. Logan Grant pitched two scoreless innings to record his first save of the season.
Max Rosing finished 2-for-3 in the first game for Newark (8-12).
Watertown plays its second doubleheader in two days as it travels to Elmira to take on the Pioneers 5 p.m. today.
