Syracuse Opera will host a musical memorial celebrating the life and operatic legacy of Richard McKee, its bass, stage director and artistic director for 17 years.

Mr. McKee, who retired in 2007, died in April at 71.

The memorial is at 4 p.m. July 11 at the Crouse-Hinds Theatre, Mulroy Civic Center, 800 S. State St., Syracuse. It will feature artists whose lives were touched by Mr. McKee’s mentorship and friendship.

At the request of his family, Syracuse Opera has established the Richard McKee Memorial Fund to help bring extraordinary singing thespians to the Syracuse Opera stage. Donations can be made at www.SyracuseOpera.com, by calling 475-5915 or by mailing a check to Richard McKee Memorial Fund, c/o Syracuse Opera, P.O. Box 1223, Syracuse, NY 13201.
