New assistant principal at Case Middle

Leadership at the local middle school and high school is shifting this summer.

Bridget A. Finster was approved as Case Middle School’s new assistant principal, and Watertown High School’s assistant principal position was discussed at the Board of Education meeting Tuesday.

Ms. Finster, formerly a Black River Elementary and Carthage Elementary reading teacher, was appointed unanimously to replace Mark Bennett at the middle school as per Superintendent Terry N. Fralick’s recommendation. Her appointment, with a three-year probationary period, was effective as of Monday. Her salary, according to the resolution, is $71,826.

Mr. Bennett’s resignation was accepted Tuesday as well.

“Mr. Bennett had an opportunity to be a principal,” Mr. Fralick said. “He is now the principal at Potsdam. We’re proud of him.”

He said Ms. Finster is highly qualified for the position.

The school is replacing high school co-assistant principal O. Nelly Collazo with high school social studies teacher Jeffrey L. Ginger, who will hold the position as an intern. Mrs. Collazo accepted a position as principal of Beekmantown High School.

The only position left to fill is that of high school Principal Leslie E. Atkinson. Mr. Fralick said a candidate for the position would be discussed during executive session following Tuesday’s meeting. Mrs. Atkinson, former co-assistant principal at the high school, was approved as Watertown High School’s new principal at the May 7 Board of Education meeting, effective Monday.

Mr. Fralick said much work has been done in the past three months to find replacements for all of these positions in a timely manner.

“We’ve interviewed seven people in relationship to the vacancies at the middle school and high school,” he said.
