Oswegatchie Town Councilor Kenneth A. Wilson will seek re-election to a fifth term.

Mr. Wilson, 50, is a Republican. A farmer by profession, he is bullish on encouraging economic development in this predominantly rural community.

“We need more effort toward economic development,” he said. “We need to have a reason for a business to want to start up here. We have a good base to start with Black Lake and the St. Lawrence River. I have traveled in about 35 different states; they don’t compare to what we have in the river valley.”

Mr. Wilson believes that the proposed town water district is key to Oswegatchie’s future.

“It’s badly needed for economic development, but has to be done in away not to burden the taxpayers,” he said.

Mr. Wilson supports businessman James Ma’s plans to convert the former Academy at Ivy Ridge on Route 37 into an English-as-a-second-language school and hopes that his entrepreneurial spirit inspires others.

“I wish Mr. Ma well,” he said. “We need people with good ideas and hope more people come and do the same because one of these persons with a vision will make big things happen. We need many not just one person.”

Black Lake, in Mr. Wilson’s view, is a tourism jewel.

“It is very important to the area, not just to the town of Oswegatchie,” he said.

Mr. Wilson said that his as well as the other council members’ goal is to hopefully help steer the town board into the future as a governing body that works together wisely and looks out for taxpayers.

Mr. Wilson is co-founder of Nutra-fix, a company that makes and sells probiotic dietary supplements for cows and six other products. He is a senior consultant for Ambit Energy Company.

Mr. Wilson and his wife, Char, are the parents of two daughters, Mara, 25, and Macy, 18.
