To The Editor:

We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank everyone who supported our fourth annual fundraiser and chicken barbecue at The Place on June 2 to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. It was another great success and, to date, over the last four years we have raised more than $35,000 for JDRF.

First, we would like to thank Bill and Maureen McNally, who host and sponsor the barbecue at The Place, as well as our other sponsors: NYSCOPBA, St. Lawrence Federal Credit Union, Algonquin Power, Pepsi-Cola Ogdensburg Bottlers, Jreck Subs and Gray’s Gun Shop. We would also like to thank the following who donated supplies for the barbecue: The Place, Phoenix On The Bay, The Moose Lodge, Lowe’s Home Improvement, Paul and Donna Pirie, Save A Lot, Freihofer’s Bakery, Mike Russell and Kathy Hilborne. Also, a big thank-you to Steve Putman and his culinary arts students at Northwest Tech, who helped prepare the chicken and make the macaroni salad.

Thank you to everyone who made donations to the JDRF, including Riverview Correctional Facility, Lisbon American Legion Auxiliary, Ogdensburg Bowl, Dr. Michael Seidman, Massena Sons of the American Legion, Sully’s Tavern, Howland Pump, John Ferguson, Chuck and Debbie Hollis, Jerry and Sue Reed, Rhonda Roethel, Sean Backus, Rena and Milt Goldberg, Chuck and Irene Ladouceur, Jim and Joanne Adams, and the students and faculties at Kennedy, Madill, Sherman, Lincoln, OFA Extra Classroom Activities and Lisbon Central School Interact Club.

Thank you to all those who donated prizes for our raffles and auctions, including Wal-Mart, John Morrow, Donna King, The Cutting Edge, Busy Corner Cafe, Freight House, Buster’s Sports Bar, Vinn’s Tavern and Pizza Hut.

Thank you to The Place, Nice ‘n Easy, and The Cutting Edge for selling sneakers and to the St. Lawrence Federal Credit Union for selling sneakers and letting our volunteers sell raffle tickets at their State Street and Commerce Park Drive locations.

Thank you to everyone who displayed our posters, to The Journal and Advance-News for printing our pictures and letters to the editor, to radio stations Q Country 102.9 and PAC 98.7 and YES FM for announcing the barbecue on the radio, to Time Warner Cable for advertising the barbecue on Channel 30 and the city Department of Public Works for hanging our banners, to Steve LaRose from Howland Pump and to Brian Mitchell from Ogdensburg Free Academy Food Services, and to Ike Strader for lending his charcoal pits.

Thank you to everyone who bought a chicken dinner, a sneaker, a bracelet, a raffle or auction ticket and especially to Don Seguin who won the 50-50 raffle and donated the entire amount back to JDRF.

And last but not least, to all those special people who generously donated their time selling raffle tickets ad/or working the barbecue: Barb and Jerry Kroeger, Paul and Donne Pirie, Tim and Nancy Irvine, Bob and Debbie Williams, Pete and Peggy Montpetit, Linda Rivet, Mike and Jake Herzog, Stacey Barney, Jen and McKenna Gray, Jamey and Tara Kroeger and family, Donna King, Marlene Shaver, Matt Caufield and Walter Bracy from Algonquin.
