Brothers and the NYSAFE Act

To The Editor:

On May 28, St. Lawrence County Legislator Sallie Brothers submitted a letter to the editor on North Country Now in favor of the NYSAFE Act. She proved to county residents that she is bought and paid for (because she is collecting a state pension that is free from state taxes ( and collects a pay check as a legislator (would that be used to pay her property taxes and more?) by supporting Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo and his behind-closed-doors crafted (like a criminal) the act ( 2013) in response to the tragic events of Dec. 14, 2012, at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.

What the SAFE Act does not do is abolish the Federal Safe Schools Act of 1990, which created gun-free school zones, turning public schools into kills zones for shooters who are doped up on Food and Drug Administration-approved antidepressants and pain killers that have violent side effects. Nor does it reduce gang violence (that is the main source of murder in the country; legalizing marijuana would do that because gangs would have one less thing to fight over). It does have gun owners register certain guns to prevent gun violence. Registering cards does not prevent car accidents or thefts (not very safe, is it?). Registering sex offenders does not stop sex offenders from future rape or child molestation, does it? It proves that the governor took the advice of Chicago Mayor Ram Emmanuel, Democrat, whose favorite motto is “Never let a good crisis go to waste,” in this case using the dead children of Sandy Hook to pass record-breaking legislation.

Sallie Brothers should resign because of her favoring another failed gun law which criminalizes her neighbors and does not stop crime.
