MAPLES, 1947 - This week’s photo, submitted by Monica LaRose of Ogdensburg, is of the 1947 Ogdensburg Maples Border League baseball team. In front from left are manager Steve Yerkes, Paul LaFramboise, Lou Sleater, Eddie Burke, Ron Smith, Jim Cloran and Will Selergren. Second row: Ted Klonowski, Johnny Rortche, George Pelati, Hank Paulik, Hal Smythe and Chet Pagliuccia. Third row: Bob Dill, Toni Erudaitis, Bob Brown, Don Bryant, Bob Stokes and Carl Davis. Until this year, it had been 62 years since a Maples team played at Father Martin Field in Ogdensburg, known as Winter Park when the Border League was active and later renamed for the Rev. Msgr. Harold Martin, who served as the league’s first president. The Ogdensburg Maples, now a youth program, last month played Massena in a 17-under game, following a complete renovation of Father Martin Field’s infield. The team is coached by Steve LaRose, Mike Wentworth, Randy Arsenault, Nate Minckler and Cavan LaRose. Special thanks to Dave Shea for his help with this week’s feature.
