As things go up, so does the cost of living and some of us are having a hard time to make the ends meet, and the more we try to get help the more they take from us. There are no jobs within St. Lawrence County, and other counties. And the people who live in these counties turn to the food pantries for food and other needs, because they need the help.
The taxes are too high for some and with the job shortage people are moving or selling their homes so they can go where there are jobs. The church and community program of Canton has a lot of families coming to her for food because they dont have enough income or get enough food stamps to help them each month.
I know a lot of people who dont get them because they have a few dollars over the limit and pay all their bills and run short to get food. Some people even try to get a part-time job to help cover their needs but yet the system still takes more away from you. You cant win no matter what you do because they still take it somehow. With all the cuts and jobs being taken whats it going to look like in the years to come and there is nothing here for those who live in this little community?
I have been here for over 20 years and 15 of them in Canton, and I thought I would never see Canton this dead and this bad. Our schools are losing teachers and aides due to budget cuts? What kind of education is our kids going to have and what kind of future will they? And what about the places for rent and they are very costly and a lot of people cant afford it, plus you have to pay the deposit and its as much as the rent. People are not made of money and most of them are on a fixed income and that means one check a month and they have to pay for everything and not have enough income to do it and you cant get help, then what do they do?
