BRASHER FALLS - The 2013 Northern New York Box Lacrosse season got underway Monday night at the Tri-Town Arena.
The High School Division again features four teams as the opening games saw Massena Savings and Loan outlast Embridge-St. Lawrence Gas 8-7 and Rons Agridrainage down B&W Quick Stop 13-7. In Elementary Division opener, first-year sponsor Stacey Howlett, DDS, picked up a 13-6 decision over Dow Electric. The Adult Division pick-up game had the Whites outscoring the Reds 16-10.
Ogdensburg Pepsi will be sponsoring Powerade Player of the Game awards for the High School Division and Elementary Division games throughout the season.
HIGH SCHOOL DIVISION
Massena S&L 8, Embridge-SLG 7: Jeff Bain completed a hattrick with five seconds left in regulation to highlight the winning effort and earn player of the game honors. Zach St. Hilaire fashioned two goals and two assists. Trent Dow also scored twice while Brody Simonds logged a pair of helpers.
Logan Sharlow had two goals and one assist as the player of the game for Embridge-SLG. Skyler Burns and Blake Premo each finished with a goal and assist.
Rons 13, B&W Quick Stop 7: Drew Rose anchored a balanced attack with three goals and an assist as player of the in the winning cause. Nick Randall also generated a hattrick while Tyler Kowalchuk netted a pair of goals.
Luke Arquiett produced three goals in the loss while player of the game Jake Sheets broke through for a pair of goals along with Landon Storrin.
Rotating between the pipes through the two games were Kody Kocsis (20 saves, 2 assists), Cash Feeley (20 saves), Parker Hornung (19 saves) and Joel Hinkley (16 saves).
Stacey Howlett, DDS 13, Dow Electric 6: Tommy Storrin notched three goals and helped set up another to gain player of the game status in the winning effort. Jayden Ashley (1 assist) and Ashton Adams contributed two goals each.
Dow Electric player of the game Evan Demers netted a pair of goals in his first-ever box lacrosse game. Mike Donie also scored twice in the losing cause.
Whites 16, Reds 10: Cody Burns fired eight shots into the back of the net to lead the winning attack. Ryan McCuin chipped in three goals followed by Marshall Burninghausen with two while Kocsis worked the crease for 29 saves.
Brian Newtown paced the Reds with four goals. Martin Fregoe tallied two goals and one assist while Feeley, who is slated to enter the seventh grade this fall, stood tall making 14 saves backstopping the Reds.
