ROSSIE, NY – Robert Harold Ely, 45, of Hitchman-Gardner Drive, died early Monday morning at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born November 8, 1967, in Alexandria Bay, son of Danny Boomer and Marjorie Walts Ely. He graduated from Alexandria Central High School and studied physics and philosophy at SUNY Oneonta. He married Melinda Joan Kissling Brown on October 2, 2004, at Kring Point State Park in Alexandria Bay.
Bob was owner of Green George Landscape, Alexandria Bay. Successfully self-employed for fifteen years, Green George provided organic landscape care, specializing in propagating unique perennial flowers that thrived in the North Country climate. Bobs avid love of Celtic history and culture led him teach himself Irish in order to understand the mythology and preserve the language. He also helped found the first North American Irish-speaking district, Cumann na Gaeltachta.
Besides his wife and parents, Bob is survived by a son, Kian, at home, a daughter, Aurora of Montana, a brother, Eric of Redwood, NY and two grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Friday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Costello Funeral Home, Alexandria Bay. The funeral will be Saturday at 10am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Rossie Cemetery.
