Show time at City Hall

To The Editor:

It’s show time at City Hall: the case of an alleged $1 worth of recyclable cans and bottles (apparently soda and hopefully not beer). Bryan Pribble is fired form his job because someone “noticed’ him putting some of the “contraband” into his own vehicle. My initial question would be: was there an absolutely written rule or policy as to where the cans and bottles ultimately would wind up? If it is true that Mr. Pribble purloined a dollar’s worth of cans and bottles, it would seem that only disciplinary action might be initiated. To fire someone over this does not pass the smell test. It doesn’t even constitute petit-petit larceny, or did Mr. Pribble possibly sip some leftover fluids in those cans? Good grief! He’s possibly guilty of Pribble dribble! How ghastly!

Mr. Pribble should not have been “canned” over a few empty cans unless, of course, there is a subplot lurking. Call in Hercule Poirot or perhaps Mayor Bloomberg, who seems to consider himself an expert on soda.

I liken this horrific crime to show time, as it reminds me of Les Miserables, whereby the main character had been sentenced to five years jail time for stealing five loaves of bread to feed his sister and family. That really was a lot of “dough.”

I’d love to ask the city administration just how much money it is going to cost to arbitrate this case, but then, alas, I don’t even get answers to legitimate questions, let alone one of this s“can”dalous nature. Stay tuned.
