CHAUMONT — Two people were taken to the hospital Tuesday night following a one-vehicle accident at Route 12E and Bayview Drive, according to Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies.

Deputies said Karen A. Tibbits, 66, of 8870 Route 12E, Three Mile Bay, was driving north on 12E about 6:48 p.m. when she lost control of her 2003 Jeep. The vehicle veered across the center line, traveled another 200 feet and went airborne before ending up striking a stop sign, deputies said.

Ms. Tibbits and a passenger, Helen S. Schreiber, 89, Three Mile Bay, were taken by ambulance to Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown. Ms. Tibbits was treated and later released, and Ms. Schreiber was listed on Wednesday as stable.

The road was closed for about an hour, deputies said.

Another passenger, Richard D. Schreiber, 92, was not injured.
