The Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority Administration Building is getting a new tenant.
Beginning Monday, RayZ International LLC, which sells wholesale handbags and cashmere scarves imported from India, will occupy 120 square feet of space in the administration building, 1 Bridge Plaza.
The OBPA Board of Trustees unanimously approved the one-year lease agreement Wednesday.
Owner Shafaq Vakil moved to Ogdensburg in 2008 with her husband, Dr. Mohammad Iqbal Vakil, who works in internal medicine at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center.
While Mrs. Vakils business opened in October, she has a lifetime of experience in textiles.
My family has been in the business for a long time, Mrs. Vakil said. I am directly in touch and know the manufacturers, so we know exactly what were getting and who it is made by.
The company also offers pashmina shawls and stoles, pashmina kani shawls, fine woolen scarves and hand-embroidered suede and velvet bags.
Mrs. Vakil will be displaying scarves and handbags at the Ogdensburg Wine and Beer Festival and Craft Show in November.
From her new location, Mrs. Vakil says she plans to distribute her products to trade shows and different boutiques throughout the north country.
The great thing about our product is that we can buy and distribute without having any middle man. Its high quality products at low prices, she said.
