D.A.R.E. is the difference between being confident and being unsure of yourself. Through a weekly program with a total of 11 lessons, I have learned so much about handling anger, embarrassment, temptation, and most importantly, bullying.
Even though I am nervous about going to junior high, I know I will be fine because of D.A.R.E. I know what to do if I am offered drugs, alcohol, or cigarettes. I know what to do if I see or am the victim of bullying. D.A.R.E. has taught me so much.
I have a hard time putting into words everything I have learned through D.A.R.E. Did you know that there are about 75,000 deaths caused by alcohol a year in the U.S.? Too much alcohol can cause memory loss, poor sight, and awful coordination.
I know what its like to be drunk, because everyone in my class got to try on the D.A.R.E. goggles. It made our vision so blurry that many people cheated and lifted the goggles up. When you are drunk, you cant cheat.
Tobacco can cause many problems like lung cancer, awful breathing, holes in your neck, and even losing part of your face. Say no!
The D.A.R.E. decision making model helps kids make good choices. D stands for define, you think about the problem. A stands for assess, gather your choices. R stands for respond, make the choice you think is the best. E stands for evaluate, think about whether you have made a good choice.
I have used the D.A.R.E. decision making model when I have problems. I use it to help me calm down sometimes, because when I get really stressed I end to make bad decisions. When I fight with my friends, it helps us resolve the problem. The D.A.R.E. decision making model is a way of life.
When I have trouble, I think about when I have learned in D.A.R.E. What would Officer Flynn want me to do? I think that I am a much better big sister because of D.A.R.E. Although I still sometimes snap on my little sister Alyssa, I am getting a lot better and I think she feels like she can trust me with anything now.
I am also a better friend. I used to be a little bossy sometimes, but now I know how to recognize when I am crossing the line and stop right away. I dont really have many fights with my amazing group of friends, and D.A.R.E. will keep it that way.
Now that I know the affects of Drugs, Alcohol, and Tobacco, I will never use them. I know how to make good excuses when I am offered any of these things, and I can also just walk away. I am a better kid because of D.A.R.E.
I love D.A.R.E. I hope that many other children can become better people through D.A.R.E. as well. I will never be a user of Drug, Alcohol, or Tobacco. I have great friends, and I know how to easily make more at the junior high because of D.A.R.E. I also know who to stay away from. I am very grateful for the opportunity to participate in D.A.R.E.
