When I grow up, I want to be an astronomer, but first I have to live long enough. Thousands of people die in the United States, because of drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes, and using tobacco. Up to 75,000 people die from alcohol use, 400,000 people in the U.S. die from tobacco use, and when people smoke around others, they could die too. Almost 50,000 people die from secondhand smoke.

Sorry for all of the death, luckily, I am prepared to say “no” to drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and cigarettes.

I have learned a lot from our D.A.R.E. officer. Now I know that when someone asks me to do something that I know will harm my growing body, I can define, assess, respond, and evaluate the problem.

There are ways to resist when someone asks you to smoke or drink or abuse drugs. You can simply avoid the situation, hang out with your friends who are non users, say no and walk away, give a good reason to say no, or change the subject. I really don’t want to harm my body, even if other kids think it’s cool, well it’s obviously not, so do yourself a favor and say “no.”

The D.A.R.E. Decision Making Model will help me a lot in my life. It’s a way of great choices that you and your body will be thankful for. I plan to use it throughout my entire life to make responsible and safe choices. You should always make great choices wherever you are, to protect you from things that will harm your body and life.
