Friends and family are calling on the community to support Gina M. Casey and her battle with a life-threatening tumor which resulted in the removal of her right lung Wednesday.

Family and friends will hold a jamboree to aid Ms. Casey at Ghize’s bar, 720 Main St., beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Ms. Casey, 34, was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumor earlier this year. The tumor stretched across her lungs and pituitary glands.

In order to save her life, doctors at Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, Vt., removed the tumor and Ms. Casey’s right lung Wednesday.

“The doctor said it was the biggest tumor he had ever removed,” Denise R. LeClair, her mother, said Thursday. “They weren’t sure they were going to get all of it. But they did, and she is doing remarkable. She is a strong girl.”

In two weeks, doctors are set to remove a second tumor from Ms. Casey’s pituitary gland. Her 35th birthday is July 28.

Ms. Casey, who works at Wal-Mart in the electronics department, has one daughter, Jade S. Casey, 18.

“She loves going to work and always helps out when she can,” Mrs. LeClair said. “She can’t wait to go back there.”

Tanya Eaton and Alyssa J. Brabant are organizing the jamboree for their cousin’s medical and travel expenses.

“The cost of going to and from Burlington is expensive,” Ms. Brabant said. “This time for her surgery she will be there for a week. We want to help her family that is staying there.”

“She is doing awesome,” Mrs. LeClair said. “We’re so lucky the doctors caught it in time. She has every chance of recovery.”

The cost to attend the jamboree is $6 per person and $10 per couple.

There will be door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, and a Chinese auction. Raffle tickets are also on sale for $1 each. First prize is a Labatt Blue Light portable bar. Second prize is a Spalding electronic basketball arcade game. Third prize is a $50 gift certificate to the Cascade Inn, Canton. Fourth prize is a $25 gift card to Carbino’s Jewelers, 304 Ford St.

Food will include hot dogs, hamburgers and different homemade dishes.

Deejay Scott Boyer will mix throughout the day. The band Dragonfly will play at 2 p.m. and the band Paparazzi Scandal will perform at 4 p.m.

Photos from the photo booth cost $1. To make a donation, call 355-7676 or drop it off at the jamboree.
