MASSENA The Walton Central School District has hired Massenas former school administrator as its superintendent.
Roger B. Clough II was appointed last week at a salary of $140,000. Mr. Clough will move from a district of approximately 2,800 students to one with about 990 students.
Walton Central Board of Education President Judy Breese did not return a call for comment Thursday.
Mr. Clough notified the Massena Central School Board of Education in June 2012 that he did not wish to renew his contract when it expired this June 30. Retired St. Lawrence Central School Superintendent Stephen M. Putman was appointed acting superintendent for July, and William W. Crist was named interim superintendent for 2013-14. Mr. Crist, who was superintendent of the Oswego City School District, will begin his duties Aug. 1.
Mr. Clough had been with the Massena Central School District since 1995 and an administrator since 2002. He was a teacher before stints as principal at Nightengale Elementary and J.W. Leary Junior High schools.
Massena school board members wished him well.
Were happy to see Mr. Clough found employment somewhere, President John R. Boyce said. Hopefully his future endeavors will turn out well for all parties involved.
I wish him the best, Loren J. Fountaine said. Maybe a fresh start is what people need.
