No injuries reported after fire at the Thousand Islands Trailer Park

FISHERS LANDING — No injuries were reported in connection with a fire Saturday night that caused extensive damage to a residence in the Thousand Islands Trailer Park.

Clayton Fire Chief Dale C. Harvey said he was surprised that the dwelling was standing, based on the amount of thick black smoke he saw when he arrived about 7:50 p.m. at the home, at 65 Jimbos’ Lane. Dozens of emergency responders were able to extinguish the fire in about 20 minutes.

“That’s a hell of a save,” Mr. Harvey said. “That trailer shouldn’t be standing.”

Mr. Harvey said the fire started in the front of the home, in what he assumed was its kitchen. He said that he did not know the cause of the fire, and that it would have to be determined by Jefferson County investigators.

Though the trailer was still standing, Mr. Harvey speculated that the damage inside would mean it would be declared a total loss.

The home belongs to Thomas and Mary Ellen Cenzi, Spencerport. Mr. Harvey said the two were en route to the residence to survey the damage.

Several neighbors said Mr. Cenzi had last been at the home Friday morning.

Neighbor Richard F. Piperata Sr. said he was alerted to the fire by another neighbor’s call outside his home, and quickly saw smoke seeping from the trailer’s side and back. Mr. Piperata ran over to make sure nobody was inside, but backed away when he saw Mr. Cenzi’s van was not parked next to the home.

“It was just pouring out,” Mr. Piperata said of the smoke. “I thought the windows would burst.”

Other agencies that responded to the fire were the Fishers Landing and Depauville fire departments and the Thousand Islands Emergency Rescue Service.
