COLTON -The Colton Hepburn Library recently celebrated its Centennial and the unveiling of a plaque honoring the building as an historic site on the State and National Registers.
The ceremony began with a welcome by Board President Cynthia Dusharm and a reading of the original article, which appeared in local papers 100 years ago, and marked the librarys official opening and dedication.
The building, designed by architect E.K.Rossiter, was funded by Colton native A. Barton Hepburn. An original blueprint of the building, as well as books dating to the librarys opening, were on display along with photos and other memorabilia.
Dennis Eickhoff, the librarys director, was also honored for his recent selection as Librarian of the Year by the New York Library Network. At that ceremony he was presented with a plaque, on display at the library, and a $1000 savings bond.
In attendance were community members, Friends and Library board members, and Town Supervisor, Dennis Bulger. A reception followed providing an opportunity to view the historic library items .
