State approves 17 insurers for Health Benefits Exchange

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced today that the Department of Financial Services has approved health insurance plan rates for 17 insurers seeking to offer coverage through New York’s Health Benefits Exchange.

Consumers and businesses will be able to choose from among four tiers of plans: bronze, silver, gold and platinum. The plans within each tier will have standardized contract terms and product offerings, designed to make it easier for consumers to comparison shop and encourage real price competition among insurers, according to a news release issued by the Department of Financial Services.

Approved insurers are:

n Aetna

n Affinity Health Plan, Inc.

n American Progressive Life & Health Insurance Company of New York

n Capital District Physicians Health Plan, Inc.

n Health Insurance Plan of Greater New York

n Empire BlueCross BlueShield

n Excellus

n Fidelis Care

n Freelancers Co-Op

n Healthfirst New York

n HealthNow New York, Inc.

n Independent Health

n MetroPlus Health Plan

n MVP Health Plan, Inc.

n North Shore LIJ

n Oscar Health Insurance Co.

n United Healthcare
