Funeral services for Allen Henry Burns, age 80, of Ogdensburg, will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 11:00AM at St. Marys Cathedral with Rev. Jay Seymour officiating. Burial will be held at St. Marys Cemetery with military honors after the funeral services. Calling hours will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday, July 20, 2013 also at St. Marys Cathedral. Arrangements are being handled by Frary Funeral Home at 515 Caroline Street. Mr. Burns passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 16, 2013.
Allen is survived by his loving wife, Donna Quinn Burns; three daughters, Colleen and John Miner of Saranac Lake, NY, Anne Marie and Michael Massic of Ogdensburg, NY, and Tara Burns of San Diego, California; three granddaughters, Amanda and Seth Conklin of Gouverneur, NY, Erin Miner and Ellen Miner of Saranac Lake, NY; three grandsons, Tanner and Chayton Massic of Ogdensburg and Jake Allen Burns of San Diego, California; a sister, Jeanne Burns Wright of Ogdensburg; sister-in-law, Francesca Burns of Durham, NC; a niece, Deirdre Burns and John Major of Wisconsin; a niece Megan Burns of NC; two nephews, Richard Burns and Lisa of NC and Matthew Burns of NC; a niece, Jennifer Quinn of Cicero, NY and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many good friends. Mr. Burns was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Edna Deschamps Burns and a brother, Richard Burns.
Allen was born in Ogdensburg on September 1, 1932. He graduated from St. Marys Academy in 1950 and from Rochester Institute of Technology with a degree in Photographic Technology in 1952. He married Donna Quinn on February 12, 1988 at St. Marys Cathedral in Ogdensburg, NY with the Rev. John R. Yonkovig officiating.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956 operating from SAC Headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska.
Mr. Burns returned to Ogdensburg in 1956 to work as a fulltime professional photographer in business known as Allen Photography until he retired in 2012. He authored articles on photography in national magazines including The Professional Photographer. His photographs have appeared in many publications including Readers Digest, Life, Time, and The Professional Photographer. Mr. Burns also produced photographs for most major companies in the United States including U.S. Steel, Chrysler Corporation, Goodrich, Acco, Pittsburgh Plate & Glass, Newell Manufacturing, Joanne Western Mills, Diamond National and Dean Foods. He photographed paintings and bronzes for publications for The Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake and the Remington Art Museum in Ogdensburg. Allens photographs appear in many homes and countless graduations and weddings throughout the North Country.
Mr. Burns was a lifetime member of the Ogdensburg Elks Club.
