City will allow chairs for parade, just not on city-maintained property

Ogdensburg residents can still set up chairs along Ford Street in order to reserve spots for the Seaway Festival Parade on city property that is maintained by residents.

A public notice posted by the city earlier this month said, “city-owned property along Ford Street cannot be reserved for the Annual Seaway Festival Parade on July 27.” But City Manager John M. Pinkerton said that only applies to city property that is also maintained by the city.

Noting that some people had already begun to reserve spots across from Nice and Easy on Ford Street Extension, Mr. Pinkerton said, “They block that off than that’s going to be blocked off for three weeks. And it looks like a mess.”

“It’s for maintenance purposes,” Mr. Pinkerton said of the city’s rule.

People are still welcome to set up chairs on city property the morning of the parade, he said. Setting up a chair between the road and the sidewalk in front of a private home or business is still okay with the city so long as it’s cleared with the property owner.
