GRANVILLE - The Norfolk Post 925 Rovers will look to play their way back into contention through the losers bracket after opening the American Legion Baseball District 4 Playoffs with a 7-3 loss to tournament host Granville on Friday.
Playing a double-elimination format, the Rovers are now slated to return to the diamond this morning at 10 a.m. against Malone Post 219. Malone suffered an 8-7 loss in 11 innings to the Clinton County Mariners in their tournament debut.
In the loss to Granville, the Rovers overcame an early 2-0 deficit with a pair of runs in the top of the third but surrendered five more runs over the next two innings and never recovered.
Lefty Ben Miller went the distance in taking the loss. He fanned nine and walked just one while Nick Burch scattered two hits over eight innings, walked one and struckout 11 to earn the win.
Isaiah Dillabough had an RBI-single and scored a run to highlight the Norfolk offense. Tyler Haas singled and scored a run while Miller drove in a run and came around to score the other.
Should the Rovers (10-11) win against Malone, they would play again at 4 p.m. this afternoon.
