College hockey: Clarkson releases 2013-14 schedule

POTSDAM — Clarkson University has announced its men’s hockey team’s schedule for the upcoming season, which includes a potential 13 games against teams that earned a bid to the 2013 NCAA Tournament, including seven contests against Frozen Four participants.

The Golden Knights will open the 2013-14 campaign with a weekend series at 2013 NCAA Tournament participant Niagara University of Atlantic Hockey on Oct. 5-6.

Clarkson will play the first of its two regular-season tournaments on Oct. 11-12 in the Ice Breaker Tournament in Minneapolis.

The tournament, which marks the traditional start to the college hockey season, will also include the University of Minnesota (Big 10), Mercyhurst College (Atlantic Hockey) and the University of New Hampshire (Hockey East).

The Knights open up the home portion of their schedule as they host Rochester Institute of Technology (Atlantic Hockey) on Oct. 18-19. Clarkson will also take on Colorado College, of the fledgling National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC), in a two-game matchup at Cheel Arena on Oct. 25-26 before beginning ECAC Hockey play.

Clarkson opens the conference campaign where its 2012-13 season ended in March when the Knights face off against Brown in Providence, R.I. on Nov. 1.

Defending national champion Yale awaits Clarkson the next night when the Green and Gold battle the Bulldogs in New Haven, Conn.

Headlining a list of 12 ECAC Hockey home games in the 2013-14 campaign is the Golden Knights’ annual battle with Route 11 neighbor St. Lawrence University on Dec. 6 in Potsdam.

Clarkson, which owns a current six-game league unbeaten streak over their archrival, will face the Saints the following night in Canton to complete the north country home-and-home weekend series.

The 2013 portion of the schedule comes to a close when the Golden Knights compete in the Catamount Cup at the University of Vermont on Dec. 28-29 against a pair of Hockey East foes. The Golden Knights face against Vermont in the first round and then against UMass-Lowell the next night.
