Applications are being accepted for federally funded Volunteer Fire Assistance grants, the state Department of Environmental Conservation said in a press release last week.
The grants help rural fire departments enhance their wildfire-fighting capabilities. The program is funded by the U.S. Forest Service and administered by DEC.
If selected, fire departments will receive 50/50 matching funds up to $1,000. Last year, the program allocated $380,000, which provided an average of $1,000 grants to 386 departments. It is anticipated $360,000 will be allocated for 2013.
For applications or further information about the program, contact DEC at 518-402-8839 or visit http://wdt.me/vAGJUs. The deadline for applications is July 25.
