The Pub claims 2013 Slo-Pitch Softball crown


The top seed in the See-Way Slo-Pitch Softball playoffs, The Pub, fought off several gallant comebacks by Ogdensburg Bowl I in the two-game championship set to sweep 2013 league awards.

The Pub won 7-6 over Ogdensburg Bowl I in the final game after Ogd. Bowl I staged a 21-20 win in the first game of the finals.

The Pub 7, Ogdensburg Bowl 6: A three run fifth gave The Pub a 7-4 lead but a key double play ended the rally and inspired Ogdensburg Bowl’s comeback. Scott McCormick, Don McCathy and John Denio each lined two singles in the win while Chuck Langley, McCarthy, McCormick, Denio each singled in the fifth. Chris Frary lined a triple and a single for Ogd. Bowl. Brent Chevier added three singles while John Missert, Lalonde, and David Blackburn each singled twice.

Ogdensburg Bowl 21, The Pub 20: A five run top of the seventh inning keyed by an RBI single from Chris Lalonde to score Jimmy Samarco and Brent Chevier lifted Ogdensburg Bowl I which fell behind 18-8 after four innings of play. Chris Frary had a triple and three singles, Chevier lined five singles, Matt Rafferty and Adam Bleau each ripped four singles and Mike Raven, Lalonde, and David Blackburn each stroked three singles to lead the win. Ogdensburg Bowl also produced a double-play in the seventh inning to force the second game.

For The Pub, Mike Bouchard belted a homerun and two triples and Scott McCormick, John Denio, Scott Reed and Ryan Polniak each ripped three singles.

Ogdensburg Bowl I 19, DaVinci’s 18: Mike Raven crushed a homerun and two singles, Chris Frary belted a homerun, and John Missert, Chris Lalonde, and Tyler Sansoucy each ripped three singles for the winners.

Justin Martel had two triples and three singles for DaVinci’s which scored seven runs in the seventh falling just short of a finals berth. Shawn Knapp ripped five singles and Zach Sharpe added four singles while John Bushey kept DaVinci’s alive beating out an infield single with two outs.

DaVinci’s 14, Hosmer’s 13: Dean Washburn had a walk off RBI single in the ninth inning to go along with a double and a single in the win for DaVinci’s which was helped by a triple play. Shawn Knapp had five singles and a double while Chris White chipped in four singles.

Darren King had a double and two singles for Hosmer’s.

The Pub 15, Ogd. Bowl I 9: John Denio smacked a triple and two singles, Scott McCormick lined a double and two singles and Mike Bouchard supplied a two run single lifting The Pub. Jim Samarco connected for three singles and Chris Frary lined a triple and a single to lead Ogd. Bowl.

DaVinci’s 24, Buster’s 13: Chris White supplied two doubles and two singles, Nate Angel had a double and two singles, Justin Martel connected for a triple and two singles and Paul Bartman supplied an RBI single for the win. Anthony Pirie had a triple and two singles and Andy Bell stroked a double and two singles for Buster’s.

Hosmer’s 17, Ogdensburg Bowl II 8: Billy Payne smacked a triple and a double, Josh Barkley lined a triple and a single and Justin King, Dave Merz and Matt Bell all singled twice for Hosmer’s. Dave Putman had a double and a single for Ogdensburg Bowl II. Josh Crawford added two singles.

Ogdensburg Bowl I 18, Ogdensburg Bowl II 17: David Blackburn had a walkoff single scoring two runs in the seventh inning for the gamewinning run for Ogdensburg Bowl I. Matt Rafferty belted a homerun and three singles, Chris Frary added a double and two singles, Brent Chevier and Adam Bleau chipped in three singles leading the winners. Josh Crawford smacked a homerun, a triple and a single while Mike Perry stroked a homerun, a double and a single for Ogdensburg Bowl II. Dave Putman added a double and three singles. Aaron Pierce supplied a big double and a single and earned the Nathan’s Hot Dog trophy.

The Pub 7, DaVinci’s 4: Mike Bouchard smacked a triple and a single and John Denio, Ken Stull and Scott Reed each connected for a double and a single for The Pub. Shawn Knapp, Norm Martel and Dean Washburn each singled twice for DaVinci’s.
