Land trust to host cookout

Ontario Bays Initiative Inc. will host its annual cookout fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m.Wednesday, Aug. 14, at the Crescent Yacht Club.

Special guests at the event will include Adams resident Rick West with his birds of prey and piano entertainment by Jim Burr. A silent auction will be held and guests will have the chance to learn more about the work and mission of OBI that began 20 years ago.

The land trust, an eastern Lake Ontario conservancy, was organized in 1993 and protects more than 600 acres of land along the shoreline communities of Brownville, Cape Vincent, Lyme, Ellisburg, Hounsfield, Henderson, LeRay and Pamelia.

The cookout is a celebration of OBI’s work and efforts to preserve farmland, woodland and ecologically significant habitat. Money raised during the event helps to cover the organization’s operating costs and conservation programs.

Membership signup will be available at the picnic.

The cookout is $40 per person. Contact OBI board member and secretary Tracy Valentine at 767-4330 to make a reservation or for more information.
