Edgar E. Johnston, age 69, of Haskell passed away Friday, July 5, 2013 at the Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock. He was born on September 9, 1943 in Ogdensburg, NY to the late J. Edgar and Marjorie Stevenson Johnston. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Jim Carlisle.
Edgar graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1961. He graduated from Louisiana Tech with an electrical engineering degree and was a communication specialist in the U.S. Air Force, where he had served from 1961-1965. He had retired after working 33 years for Entergy. He also worked for H&R Block as a tax preparer. Ed grew up on a diary farm, picked up the nickname Peanut, and was a state wrestling champ at one time. Ed loved camping, Razorbacks football, country music and dancing, and spoiling his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Sue Johnston of Haskell; sons, Robert Joseph Johnston (Kay Lynn) of Whitehall, AR and Richard Johnston of Pine Bluff, AR; daughters, Dawn M. McNeice of Pine Bluff, Laurel E. Gunn (Zach) of Pangburn, AR, Tammy Akines (Arlin) of Star City, AR, and Becky Carlisle of Haskell, AR; sisters, Donna Sharland (Steve) of Ogdensburg, NY and Ellen Vigus (Richard) of Forest Hill, MD; niece, Lisa; nephews, Billy and Ryan, several grandchildren; three great grandchildren and many friends.
A memorial service was held Sunday afternoon, July 7, 2013 at 3:00PM at his home on 402 Dodson Creek Road in Haskell officiated by Pastors Dennis Owens and Mike Brogen.
