Sondra M. Struckmeyer-Rider, 40, of 20083 Reasoner Road, town of Brownville, was charged by Jefferson County sheriffs deputies with felony aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child as a passenger at 2:39 p.m. Saturday on Perch Lake Road in the town of Brownville.
Deputies said they received a report from a Perch Lake Road residence stating that a small boy was at her door asking for help for his mother, who was in her vehicle and experiencing difficulty breathing. The resident went to the vehicle and allegedly found Mrs. Struckmeyer-Rider slumped over the steering wheel and removed the keys from the ignition of the running vehicle. Deputies said that Mrs. Struckmeyer-Rider told them she was taking her two sons, ages 8 and 9, to the pool at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds off Coffeen Street.
Deputies allege that her blood alcohol content was found to be 0.29 percent, which is above the minimum legal level of 0.18 percent to warrant an aggravated DWI charge. The charge became a felony because of the alleged presence of children in the vehicle. A BAC of 0.08 percent or above is considered proof of intoxication under state law. She will answer the charges in Brownville Town Court.
