Caseys combine to pace Norwood Duathlon; LaMacchia, Colbert emerge as individual leaders

NORFOLK - Near-perfect conditions greeted a field of nearly 80 competitors for the third race of the Norwood Beach Duathlon Series on Tuesday.

The father-son duo of Dan Casey and Dan Casey combined to post the fastest time of the night in a close race that saw the top eight finishers seperated by less than a second. The Casey placed first overall in 41.46 followed by the team of Shawn Spriggs and Bob Rodgers in 41.46. Donald Romlein and Matt Booz were third in 41.47 while the tandem of Mark Josephs and Nathan Josephs took fourth in 41.47.

Ogdensburg native and professional triathlete Leslie LaMacchia emerged as the top individual performer of the race, placing fifth overall with her time of 41.51 while the top male finisher was Chad Colbert, who was sixth overall in 42.20.

Rounding out the top five in the women’s division were Steph Rodgers in 44.20, Kendra Moran in 48.35, Amy Hollister in 49.08 and Alicia Felt in 49.39.

In the men’s division, Bryan Seymour finished second in 42.27 which was seventh overall followed by Bruce Yelich in 43.02, Doug Johnson in 43.12 and Corey Hamelin in 43.41.

Ben Swimm and Bob Washo combined to place fifth in the team division and eighth overall with a time of 42.36.

The final race of the 2013 series is slated for next Tuesday. The race consists of an eight-mile bike ride sandwiched between two 1.5-milre runs. Registration starts at 5:30 p.m. with the race starting at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $3 per race per person.

Participants ages 17-under need a parent’s signature. Helmets are required for all cyclists.
