The first round matchups for the upcoming North Country Womens Summer Soccer playoffs were decided on Tuesday as Massena Fastenal-Dairy Queen and Akwesasne closed out the regular season with wins.
Fastenal-DQ clinched the fourth seed with a 2-1 overtime win against Josies-Hoot Owl while Akwesasne outscored Potsdam Two 6-1 to claim the third seed. The other two games of the night saw FC Freeze outlast Heuvelton 3-2 to finish as the second seed while Parishville-Potsdam edged Harrisville 3-2.
Thursdays quarter-final round games will see top-seeded defending champion Dow Electric host Heuvelton at the Parishville-Hopkinton Central field, FC Freeze take on Edwards-Knox at the SLU J Lot field, Akwesasne welcome Potsdam One at Generations Field in Hogansburg and Massena go up against Canton at Mike Nicholas Field. The semi-final round is slated for next Tuesday and the title game for Thursday, August 8. All the playoffs games are slated to kick-off at 6 p.m.
Fastenal-DQ 2, Josies-Hoot Owl 1 (OT): Dominique Valancius broke through for both goals in the winning effort with assists going to Marci Silver and Kristen Borgosz. Alexa Cappione handled crease duties.
Anita Francis countered with the lone Canton goal.
FC Freeze 3, Heuvelton 2: Sara Elliott connected for a pair of goals to spark the Freeze while Eileen Coyle netted a singleton.
Becky Kelley struck for both Heuvelton goals.
