A Canton-based band that in its two-year history has grown a large fan base for its eclectic mix of original “outlaw jam swamp, blues/rock,” is releasing its debut album, “State of the Union,” through Woodstock Records.

The Waydown Wailers will host the official release party for its CD at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Whittaker Park in Waddington as part of the Evan Williams Bourbon Showdown on the St. Lawrence River. The showdown is part of the Bassmaster Elite Series of fishing tournaments.

“State of the Union” was produced by Aaron “Professor Louie” Hurwitz. In the 1990s, he and the late Levon Helm co-produced three albums for the Band: “Jericho,” “High on the Hog” and “Jubilation.” His own group, Professor Louie and the Crowmatix, has released eight albums on Woodstock Records and has been nominated for five Grammy awards.

Tracks for “State of the Union” were recorded at Subcat Studios in Syracuse with final recording, mixing and engineering at LRS Studios in Hurley, Ulster County.

Members of Waydown Wailers are David Parker on rhythm and lead guitar, mandolin and vocals; his brother Christian on rhythm and lead guitar, Conner Pelkey on bass and backing vocals and Michael Scriminger on drums.

On “State of the Union,” Mr. Hurwitz performs with the band on organ, electric and acoustic piano, synthesizser, accordion and backing vocals.

Lyrically, the group’s songs range from daily observations to relationships and desires.

Woodstock Records will release “State of the Union” in mid-August. However, the band is selling copies of the CD at its live shows, including the upcoming one in Waddington, for $10. Also, the album is now available by digital download through Amazon.com ($7.92) and other music sites.

Preview tracks of the album can be heard on the band’s website at waydownwailers.com.
