The Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club recently received a $1000 donation from the NBA Coaches for Kids program as part of a program where donations are made to a club where an NBA Head Coach or athletic trainer was a member in his youth. This season marks the fifth consecutive year of the highly successful NBA Coaches for Kids program—a collaborative effort between NBA head coaches and athletic trainers in conjunction with Boys and Girls Clubs of America and NBA Cares.

The OBGC is proud have Dallas Mavericks’ Coach Rick Carlisle as a club alumnus. An alumnus who has been a longtime supporter of the OBGC.

In addition to financial support the NBA Coaches for Kids Program gives club kids the opportunity to attend NBA Games throughout the year.

This year, NBA coaches for Kids will also take advantage of the pregame period as a motivational tool for participating Boys and Girls Clubs to champion the importance of the “Great Futures Impact Plan” recently launched by Boys and Girls Clubs of America. This plan promotes the value of America’s young people graduating from high school on time with a plan for the future, which is what is expected from every Boys and Girls Club member.

The Impact Plan stresses Academic Success, Good Character and Citizenship and a Healthy Lifestyle.

“There is no other important issue facing America today than making sure our young people get on the right path in terms of academic achievement, good character and a healthy lifestyle,” said Coach Carlisle who also serves as the President of the NBA Coaches Association.”

We are thrilled to spearhead NBA Coaches for Kids which can play an integral role by giving younger kids the opportunity to attend an NBA game and experience firsthand what it’s like to train with these world class coaches and athletic trainers.”

“We are thankful to Rick for his continued support of the OBGC and Boys and Girls Clubs across the country, we are hoping in the future that we can get a group of our kids to an NBA game so they can take advantage of the opportunity to learn from NBA trainers and coaches. Coach Carlisle is such a great example to our members that if you work hard and have a plan for the future, all things are possible, “stated Tom Luckie OBGC Executive Director.

For more than 100 years, Boys and Girls Clubs of America have enabled young people most in need to achieve great futures as productive, caring and responsible citizens.

Today nearly 4,000 clubs serve some 4 million young people through club membership and community outreach. Clubs provide a safe place, caring adult mentors, fun and friendship, and high-impact youth development programs on a daily basis during critical non-school hours.

In a Harris Survey of alumni, 57 percent said the club saved their lives. The Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club has been serving youth from Ogdensburg and the surrounding communities since 1964.
