PAMELIA — Harold Harvey Farr, of County Route 17 died Monday, July 29, 2013 at the Hospice of Jefferson County at Ellis Farm.

Born January 19, 1928, in Brownville, he was the son of the late Fred H. Farr and Eva Dorr Farr. He graduated from Brownville – Glen Park High School in 1945 where he served as class Secretary-Treasurer and lettered in basketball and baseball and also graduated from Signal Corps Technical School in Fresno, CA, Nashville Auto Diesel College and the Dale Carnegie Institute.

Mr. Farr enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served from 1946 to 1948 with the 9th Air Force in Germany. Played basketball with Air Force teams and in 1947 participated in the Air Force European Championship Finals in Berlin and Munich. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1948 and served 4 years in the Air Force Reserves as Sergeant during the Korean War. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal.

He farmed in the Evans Mills area for more than fifty years, as a dairy farmer, cattle hauler and bull leaser.

Two marriages ended in divorce.

He was a Life Member of Watertown American Legion Post 61 and Watertown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1400.

In the 1950’s Mr. Farr played Border League basketball with numerous local teams and won several awards.

Mr. Farr traveled extensively, including all fifty U.S. States and returned to Europe in 1996 after fifty years.

Harold is survived by five children, three sons and their families, Lt. Col (retired) Harvey R. Farr, Phoenix, AZ, his two sons Christopher and Matthew and daughter Rachel: Dr. Daniel H. Farr and his wife Beth, Ithaca, NY and their son, Benjamin and daughter, Emily, and Thomas M. Farr, his wife, Kathleen, Atlanta, GA, their daughter, Megan and son, Mackenzie; two daughters and their families, Zabeth G. Farr, Denver, CO and her husband, Mark Labrecque, and daughter Jessica; Kathyrn E. Farr, Chaumont; and a brother, Donald Farr, Auburn.

Two bothers, Leon Farr and Eric Farr and a sister Helen Farr Burke died before him.

A graveside service will be 11 am Monday at Glenwood Cemetery.

Arrangements are with Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Harold’s name to American Legion Post 61 or VFW Post 1400 or Hospice of Jefferson County.
