The Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority will head again next month to the Deep South to drum up business for its Paterson Street port.

The annual Breakbulk Americas port and shipping conference will be held Sept. 23 to 26 in New Orleans, La. More than 4,000 maritime professionals from around the world, will meet there to talk shop and promote themselves

“We’ve been there four, five times,” said John A. Rishe, the authority’s director of commercial and industrial development, who will attend. “It’s very well worth it.”

Mr. Rishe said that the Breakbulk exhibition is an excellent setting for getting tips on potential business prospects as well as learning more about the industry.

“You learn all kinds of stuff that’s going on,” he said. “It’s great exposure.”

Last spring and summer, OBPA put itself on the maritime map by handling a massive 12-ship, 1,000-truck, 210-rail car transfer of components for 80 windmills.

Other notable aspects of the project included the creation of up to 70 longshoreman’s jobs, more than $1 million in wages paid, $250,000 in port improvements, $65,000 in equipment rentals, $56,000 in rail improvements and spikes in business for local merchants.
