Four area schools are among the 13 finalists for the America’s Farmers Grow Rural grant in the state.

South Jefferson, Thousand Islands, and Canton and Potsdam central schools were chosen to be in the running for the $25,000 grant from the Monsanto Fund, the philanthropic arm of Monsanto.

“The program supports the enhancement of rural school districts, specifically in math and science education,” said grant spokeswoman Kristi McCann in an email.

“Winners will be announced on Tuesday, August 27th,” she said.

According to www.americasfarmers.com, the Monsanto Fund is investing $2.3 million total across 39 states for the grant this year.
