CARTHAGE The Carthage-Wilna Fire District Board of Commissioners, on the recommendation of Brian J. Draper, head driver, has approved the purchase of new turn out gear.
The equipment will cost $18,059.17 through a state contract. The gear will outfit all current active members.
Meeting recently, the board also approved three new members to join the Carthage Fire Departments probationary process. The probationary firefighters are Thomas Lazore, Erik Mikkelborg and Todd Rogers.
Mr. Draper reported there have been five inquiries through Firetec regarding the sale of the FMC pumper.
Commissioners agreed to have Jerome Fire Equipment Co. of Clay do an up-to-date pump test prior to selling the truck.
The Carthage-Wilna Fire District also was expecting delivery of a new fire engine ordered from KME, Nesquehoning, Pa. The board approved the purchase and installation in the new truck of required items not to exceed a cost of $16,000.
The equipment needed to bring the vehicle into complete running order includes an Automated External Defibrillator, ward diesel no smoke filtering system, play pipe fire nozzle, traffic cones, mounting brackets, computer and crash recovery software and radios.
The board set a special meeting for 4:30 p.m. Sept. 19 to adopt the 2014 budget.
